Personnel at Meyers Home Inspection Services are NJ licensed and certified to test for radon gas in the home.
We offer both the standard charcoal cannister test, as well as a computerized continuous radon monitor test (CRM).A computerized CRM radon test measures and logs the level of radon on an hourly basis. The CRM device also has a tamper proof feature in that if the device is moved, or if power is turned off, a record of this is stored. When the test is complete, the hour-by-hour record of measurements is analysed, which allows a more reliable determination of the level of radon.
Radon is a colorless and odorless radioactive gas which is produced naturally when radium or uranium decays. In some parts of NJ natural or manmade deposits of uranium or radium are high enough for the level of radon gas in the home to be a health concern.
Scientific studies have shown that high levels of radon in the home are second only to cigarette smoking as a cause of lung cancer. The NJ DEP and the EPA recommend that NJ home inspections include a radon screening test for your protection.
If the radon level is found to be greater than 4.0 pCi/l, remediation of the home is recommended to reduce the level of radon gas to as low a level as practically possible.
